Snow Christmas Tree – Counting Down to Christmas
Review by on
I have to say that I am not very big on holidays. I like Christmas, but I couldn’t say I’m crazy about it. It all balances out with the fact that my significant other is crazy about Christmas. She would decorate the house as early as November and would keep the decorations up until March or April. It’s safe to say that she would like the Respect Soft-developed Snow Christmas Tree.

I put this application to the test and this is what I found out. The download and the installation process completed in a blink; it was a simple, straightforward process that went along smoothly and without a hitch. Once the installation process completed, I noticed two things:

- A system tray icon that looked like a Christmas tree.
- A white Christmas tree smack in the middle of the monitor. Underneath the Christmas tree there was a countdown timer that said there are 275 days and 10 hours until Christmas (25th of December 2011). Blinking stars showed up next to the Christmas tree from time to time. I found that I could drag and drop the Christmas tree anywhere on my desktop. And that I can hide it by clicking the abovementioned system tray icon or by right clicking the tree -> clicking Show/Hide.

I then started to poke around with the settings and I found out that you can:
- Set it up so that the Christmas tree isn’t Always on top.
- Change the way the Christmas tree looks by selecting one of multiple skins.
- Change the countdown date. You can choose between Christmas Eve (24 December), Christmas Day (25 December), New Year (1 January) and Julian Christmas (7 January).

I also found out that Snow Christmas Tree plays an audio notification (jingle bells by default) every hour. You can change it so the notification is played every half-hour or you can disable this feature. You can also change the sound Snow Christmas Tree plays as a notification.

Pros
  • Downloads and installs rapidly
  • Freeware
  • Skins
  • Plays notifications every half-hour or every hour

Cons
  • None that I could think of
